Bob (Railbird) Roberts, who in a previous life was the acclaimed horse racing handicapper for The Plain Dealer, likes Union Rags in tomorrow’s Belmont Stakes.
With I’ll Have Another scratched with tendinitis, the Railbird adjusted his second and third picks. On his first ticket, the Railbird had I’ll Have Another finishing second.
I now present, the wit and wisdom of the Railbird.
1st — UNION RAGS — I blew my bankroll on him in the Derby when he got too far back early and couldn’t catch up. After passing the Preakness, he should be fresh and ready to play the spoiler.
2nd — PAYNTER — Word from the barn area is that this colt is sitting on a big effort. He’s trained by Bob Baffert who knows plenty about getting a horse to run big in Triple Crown races.
3rd — DULLAHAN — He won the Blue Grass and was third in the Kentucky Derby. Another third place finish? Perhaps, but with Javier Castellano taking over the reins, this colt could wind upo in the winner’s circle.
